The tale of London the Husband and the cape!

So our 7th wedding anniversary was this month, And my lovely Barry decided to treat us to London so we left our munchkin with his grandma and stepped out!

Waiting for our train.

My dress came from A la Mode, it's a 1940s shirt dress navy blue with a maroon lining it was so comfy.

Barry trying to figure out the phone for photo taking...should have taken his glasses perhaps ?

Our first stop the national gallery

So here's my cape! isn't it adorable?
I found it, or I should say some lady found it. I saw her out the corner of my eye carry this beautifully purple mass of tweed over to the mirror, look at it then put it down.
It's fair to say I almost grabbed her arm off! I rocketed over scooped it up with a mutter of "you weren't going to have this were you" then before she could answer I darted into the changing room to start my illicit love affair with my very first cape!
Its a Strelitze info here
Its heavy and lined and looks good with everything and its all mine *insert crazed laughter here*
And the best bit, the bit I adore about second hand shops is the cost! £8.00, £8.00 I tell you!
Bargain
I got a lot of little old ladys cooing over it It made me feel pretty special and I love owning something no one else can.

And Van Gougs the chair, I was so moved
                                                                                   by these I brought  the
post cards to put on my picture wall as a memento. details here

pretty lanterns in China town

So lets talk about the make up! I did a pale foundation with a neutral eye, I used liquid liner to give my eyes that beautiful upsweep, and the lipstick was a real find its no7 called love red its a nice matt one that lasted all day you can find it in Boots
I think the make up really made the outfit, I got a lot of looks and smiles and stopped a few times, people were really taken with the whole thing.

And finally my lovely Husband treated me to two of my favourite book of all time the great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald. And one who flew over the cuckoos nest by Ken Kesey.

My friend Mel, cut her open she'd bleed skittles!

Here's a post about my friend Melissa Dawson Bowling (Melly, Melster, Melmister etc)

Now and again I'll be dropping in a post or two about my darling friends, scrumptious  ladies whom I've met and are into all things vintage/interesting.
I knew me and Mel would be friends when we met in the pub and had similar hair! She immediately approached me and made a hair related comment, and I invited myself to sit at her table we've been friends ever since!.
She sings, plays the piano beautifully and effortlessly, writes her own music, wears vintage retro and all things sparkly and is a bit of a free spirit, I love people who march to the beat of their own drum and Mel  doesn't just march to it she makes the drum!

A few snaps of Mel in different outfits and hair I have no idea where she source's most of her beautiful things but she spends an awful lot of time in London attending soirees, business seminars and wine bars in equal measure. So my dear readers I shall wrap up my homage to Melissa if you are interested in what you've seen you can find her here http://www.myspace.com/melstarsmusicbox
I suggest you drop whatever you're doing and immediately rush to check it out!

Feathers, Fur, and Photography

Lookie what I have here for you my little lovers of all things vintage!
My first proper photo shoot, to capture a couple of my favourite dresss and introducing Borris! My foxy fur stole pal.

Well hello chums I must say my first photo shoot and I was le nervous! however I needn't have worried unduly!
My dear friend Mr Skinner who can be found here http://nickskinnerphotography.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/ginned-up.html made me feel very comfortable and even managed to get some decent shots of me and these truly beautiful dresses!
without too much of a hoo,ha.
they may have been a couple of out takes but you guys don't want to see them....well go on then just the one!

I would also like to take this opportunity to talk a little about feathers and fur.
Now I understand why they may not be for everybody, but I can't see anything wrong with salvaging a sad little fox brushing him up and wearing him.
Sadly not everyone is as happy about it as me (my husband being one of them)
he refuses to walk out with me wearing Boris!
I didn't kill the fox I don't buy new fur and fund fur factories same applies to my feather addiction and sheepskin hat.
I do however eat meat and wear leather
So I think its a wee bit hypocritical of people to get so angry about it.
I rarely get to wear him out because of peoples reactions but I won't give him up and he accompanies me to my dear friends houses occasionally and has a jolly outing!

This blue dress is a handmade house dress, I think from the 50s I found it in a charity shop *I know shocking me in a charity shop...how unlike me :)*
and couldn't resist!
here's a couple more one with my beautiful brolly!
Brolly!

So this is my feathery hat I'm very excited about having I of course got it from Elle at Al a mode
I can't get enough of that shop! It was a sad little wreck of a hat when I got it I took myself down to Heselden hats where the super Tereasa fixed it up for me
It's pheasant feathers and quite fabulous
I'm a little bit enthralled with it!

I like wearing what I like wearing because I like wearing it!

Ridiculously fluffy hats, lipstick kisses, snoods and old cardies that's me!
Wellll I've always been a wee bit dramatic,
1950s sheepskin hat, if it gets wet I found the hair dryer works wonders

Goth: did it
Purple Dr martians and Shakespeare: did it,
Kevin keegan perm and scary spice shoes; ashamedly did it.
Chanel Lipstick kiss from the lovely Melissa Dawson Bowling
My style has changed and evolved dear readers and thank god it has, I've never really cared what one should wear just that one feels pretty darn fly whilst doing the actual wearing. (ohh I went all royal about it!)
The point is dressing like a little old lady won't please everyone but it suites me, oh yes it does I can't explain why putting on sensible tweed a scarf and a brooch made to look like a bug just gives me a warm glowing feeling, but it does.
I've heard my style described as adults being able to rebel like Gothic teenagers, and actually I kind of like that :) I think the point is (and we've all done it) smirked behind our hands at "poor" fashion choices, Is that we could all afford to be a little more tolerant of what others do.
the only one thing that irritates me is the "I can't be bothered so I'll just wear my PJ's and wont wash look"
Ladies and Gent's there really is no need! we should all take pride in how we look  I find if I look good on the outside (whatever my version is of that) I feel pretty darn good on the inside too.
I think the mantra I live by is "You can never be overdressed only under dressed" Maybe that's why I like the glamour of the 20s 30s 40s and 50s classic style that never really goes out of fashion. Easy and frivolous, seriously who wouldn't love matching gloves and a purse shaped like a poodle...?*coughs any one? poodle purse...no?* Well you should give it a whirl it will revolutionise  your life, make you taller, faster..ok so I may be going off on a tangent but you get my point, take five look at the drab dreary things you don't really love and donate them! one thing a week replace the item right away with your version of a poodle purse and run free! feeling taller, faster etc!
Snood
Find out what makes you feel good and go with it, dressing up isn't the MOST important thing but feeling good is :) (oh dear I did just belt out a round of Nina Simone then, join in if the mood takes you)
